The Interreg Italy-Croatia project SUMMA held its final event in Caorle on 16 and 17 September 2026, presenting a Strategy for Intermodal Mobility Solutions for Adriatic coastal and hinterland areas. The strategy builds on research that included separate surveys of residents and tourists, each with more than 800 responses.

SUMMA was set up to address strained urban mobility during the tourist season and the lack of efficient connections between ports, airports, railway stations and urban areas on the Adriatic coast. The research behind the strategy combined a literature review, a market analysis, expert interviews and the two surveys, and stakeholders in every participating territory took part in dedicated participatory activities that linked planning with the everyday experience of people travelling within and between regions.

The strategy sets out key messages and guidelines for mobility systems that are more efficient, integrated and easy to use, intended for public decision-makers and mobility operators. For coastal destinations where residents and seasonal visitors rely on the same transport links, it offers a shared cross-border reference for making sustainable options such as rail, cycling and sea connections a realistic choice rather than an exception.
