The subsidised shuttle connected key points across the peninsula, Fahamore, Kilshannig and the Béal Geal Blue Flag beach car park, and linked with the existing Local Link Kerry bus route at Castlegregory. A suggested donation (€2 for adults, €1 for under-18s) supported the Maharees Conservation Association, the local group that helped design and run the pilot alongside Munster Technological University, Fáilte Ireland and Kerry County Council.

According to Dr Aisling Ward, SMART Coast project lead at MTU, the aim was to ease pressure on residents during peak season while reducing environmental impact on an ecologically sensitive area, with the pilot's results meant to serve as a blueprint other coastal regions in Ireland and across the Atlantic Area could replicate. Passengers were asked to complete a short survey after each trip; results from that feedback have not yet been published, but project partners are expected to use it to evaluate the pilot and shape future sustainable transport measures for the Maharees and similar destinations.
