A free e-learning program supports tourism businesses and suppliers in enhancing their understanding and practical skills in human rights and responsible tourism. Developed by the Roundtable Human Rights in Tourism and Futouris, in collaboration with tourism companies, industry associations, and civil society groups, the course is backed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

It highlights the increasing importance of ethical and sustainable practices across the tourism value chain. Designed for tourism suppliers such as accommodation providers, transport firms, tour operators, guides, and destination partners, the course aims to increase awareness of human rights standards, risks, and responsibilities in daily operations. It is freely accessible online in English, Spanish, and French via a flexible, mobile-friendly platform.

Participants will learn about human rights due diligence, risk identification, stakeholder engagement, and practical steps for responsible practices. The modules cover international standards, regulations such as the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act, and the upcoming European Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, all of which are crucial for companies operating in European markets and global supply chains.

The program features short modules with interactive storytelling, quizzes, and real-life examples, focusing on practical tools applicable to tourism businesses. Upon completion, participants earn digital badges and a certificate recognised by participating companies. This initiative is especially relevant for European tourism, as the sector faces increasing demands from travellers, regulators, and investors to ensure responsible, inclusive, and ethical practices. Human rights are now central to sustainable tourism strategies, ESG reporting, and destination management. Enhancing awareness and skills throughout the value chain boosts resilience, reputation, and competitiveness.

The program aligns with EU priorities such as sustainable tourism, social responsibility, skills development, and stakeholder engagement, helping destinations and SMEs improve quality, foster trust, and adapt to new legislative frameworks. It promotes a more inclusive and regenerative tourism ecosystem across Europe. Tourism organisations, DMOs, SMEs, and policymakers are encouraged to promote this free training within their networks. Investing in human rights knowledge and responsible practices is key to ensuring tourism growth benefits both people and places.
