Under the agreed compromise, AI embedded in machinery will no longer sit under the AI Act's separate high-risk regime; instead the Commission gains power to add AI-specific safety requirements through delegated acts under the Machinery Regulation. For AI systems that remain within the AI Act's scope, stand-alone high-risk obligations move to 2 December 2027 and AI embedded in other regulated products to 2 August 2028 - dates directly relevant to developers of industrial AI, robotics and autonomous systems, since the changes take effect only once formally adopted and published.
