The European Investment Bank and BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions have agreed a €200 million financing package to support small and medium-sized enterprises and mid-cap companies active in agriculture and the bioeconomy across Europe. The initiative forms part of the EIB’s wider €3 billion agricultural programme and is intended to improve access to finance for businesses facing persistent funding constraints in rural areas.
At least 30% of the financing will be dedicated to climate action and environmental sustainability, supporting investments in energy-efficient agricultural machinery, renewable energy solutions, and technologies that contribute to climate adaptation and mitigation. A minimum of 70% of the funding will go to SMEs, with early allocations expected in Italy, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Spain.
By using BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions’ pan-European platform, the programme aims to reduce financing costs, extend loan maturities, and mobilise additional private investment. The operation supports broader EU objectives linked to the Common Agricultural Policy and the transition towards a more resilient, competitive, and resource-efficient agricultural sector.
