HaDEA has launched a call for proposals under the Single Market Programme to support stakeholders implementing food waste prevention actions in 2026-2027, with a total budget of €4 million. The call backs projects turning food production side-streams and surplus into new food products, as well as consumer-facing solutions to reduce household food waste, with applications open until 15 October 2026.

The call responds to binding targets under the 2025 amendment of the Waste Framework Directive, which requires EU countries to cut food waste by 10% in processing and manufacturing and by 30% per capita jointly across retail, food services and households by 2030. Eligible actions span the supply chain, from fostering collaboration between producers, processors, wholesalers and retailers, to supporting food banks in reprocessing and redistributing surplus food.
The Commission is prioritising solutions that are close to market and ready for deployment at industrial or commercial scale within the project's duration, rather than early-stage research.
