Horizon Europe is offering around EUR 3 million for a single research project on automated scientific discovery in food, as part of the RAISE pilot (Resource for AI Science in Europe), with a deadline of 2 February 2027. The topic supports closed-loop experimentation systems that combine laboratory automation, AI-driven decision-making and robust data infrastructures, bringing food research closer to faster, more systematic testing.

The call is a Research and Innovation Action that aims at safe and trustworthy closed-loop scientific experimentation, in which AI systems take part in decisions on experiments carried out by automated laboratories and rely on solid data infrastructures. It is one of the pilot topics of RAISE, the Commission’s initiative on AI in science, which in the Horizon Europe work programme 2026-2027 also funds networks of excellence and automated discovery in materials science.

The indicative budget is around EUR 3 million for one project, under a single-stage procedure with a deadline of 2 February 2027. Applications are submitted through the Funding and Tenders Portal.
