The European Commission is stepping up action on Europe’s bioeconomy through three complementary initiatives aimed at strengthening the sector’s growth and competitiveness. These include the Bio-based Europe Alliance, the Bioeconomy Investment Deployment Group, and a new Expert Group on Bioeconomy to support implementation at Member State level.

A call for expressions of interest has been launched for founding members of the Bio-based Europe Alliance, which seeks to address value chain gaps that prevent bio-based companies from reaching commercial scale. With a target of mobilising €10 billion in corporate offtake commitments by 2030, the alliance is intended to connect producers with major European buyers and create stronger market demand for bio-based products made in the EU.

Alongside this, the Bioeconomy Investment Deployment Group has begun its work to improve access to finance for bio-based industries, while the Expert Group on Bioeconomy will help advance the implementation of the EU Bioeconomy Strategy across Member States. Together, these initiatives aim to strengthen investment, innovation, and strategic autonomy in Europe’s bioeconomy.
