The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation has released an analysis of stakeholder input gathered through 631 survey responses and 63 written submissions to inform Food 2040, the EU Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda for Food Systems. The report shows continued support for a food-systems approach first developed under Food 2030, with stronger emphasis on implementation, uptake and impact. Respondents identified key priorities relevant to the agri-food transition, including healthier diets, lower environmental impact, resilience, strategic autonomy, circularity, protein diversification, short supply chains and scaling up food-system innovation. For agri-food stakeholders across the EU, the publication provides a useful overview of emerging priorities that may shape future research, policy and innovation support.
