Two Agri-Food projects were recognised at the 2026 LIFE Awards, the European Commission's flagship award for environment and climate projects. LIFE Olivares Vivos won the Special Award for restoring biodiversity in Spain's olive groves, while LIFE Climate Smart Chefs was a runner-up in the Climate Action category for helping chefs across the EU cut the carbon footprint of their menus.

Coordinated by SEO/BirdLife, Olivares Vivos developed a science-based certification linking measurable biodiversity recovery, such as restored ground cover and reduced pesticide use, to the market value of olive oil, working with farmers across Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece under a successor project. The Commission's jury highlighted the model's potential to be scaled up and its relevance to EU biodiversity and agricultural policy.

Climate Smart Chefs trained chefs and built a network of 15 chefs' associations across all 27 EU member states, developing digital tools to design lower-emission menus. Over its three-year run, 132 chefs took part in the project's award scheme for applying low-emission, healthy diets in their restaurants, and more than 2,100 chefs used its online tool to assess the environmental impact of their menus alongside nutrition and cost.
