On 16 May 2025, Commissioner Jessika Roswall brought together key stakeholders to shape the EU’s next Bioeconomy Strategy, due by the end of 2025. The high-level meeting focused on scaling up circular bio-based solutions and breakthrough biotechnologies, with the aim of aligning economic growth with environmental sustainability. Participants from industry and civil society explored which bioeconomy solutions can best meet current EU needs and what barriers hinder innovation and scale-up.
Commissioner Roswall underlined the importance of the bioeconomy in boosting competitiveness and ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources. The meeting supports the broader goals of the Competitiveness Compass and the Clean Industrial Deal, and feeds into the ongoing public consultation on the strategy, open until 23 June 2025.
