Eurostat data show chemicals driving EU trade surplus in June 2026

Eurostat’s first estimates show that the EU recorded a €3.9 billion trade surplus in goods in June 2026. Chemicals generated the largest surplus among manufactured goods, reaching €17.3 billion, up from €14.4 billion a year earlier and helping to offset a growing deficit in energy trade.

EU chemical exports reached €48.6 billion in June 2026, an increase of 7.8% compared with the same month a year earlier. Imports rose more slowly, by 2.0%, to €31.3 billion.

At the same time, the EU’s energy trade deficit widened to €30.4 billion, compared with €23.8 billion in June 2025, as energy imports increased by 38.4%. Machinery and vehicles also recorded a sizeable surplus, at €14.6 billion.
