The European Commission initiated infringement procedures against Member States that had not completed the transposition of the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). The Directive introduces updated requirements aimed at improving the energy performance of buildings, supporting renovation activities and facilitating the integration of renewable energy solutions within the building stock.

The Directive forms part of the EU framework for reducing emissions from buildings and advancing the transition towards a zero-emission building stock by 2050. For the construction ecosystem, it provides the regulatory framework for renovation activities and the deployment of energy-efficient building technologies in support of EU climate and energy objectives.
