The new regulation applies to fans used in industrial processes, as well as heating, cooling and ventilation systems in commercial and larger residential buildings. It introduces updated energy performance requirements and new product information obligations, including the provision of performance data covering part-load operation.

The regulation also includes provisions related to repair and maintenance. Manufacturers are required to make certain spare parts available and provide professional repairers with access to relevant maintenance information. 

The measures form part of the EU ecodesign framework for energy-related products and aim to support the availability of product information, energy performance and repairability requirements across the sector.
