The EBC Congress 2025, held in Rome to celebrate the European Builders Confederation's 35th anniversary, focused on crafting SME-friendly solutions for Europe's construction, renovation and housing challenges.
Hosted by ANAEPA Confartigianato Edilizia, the event highlighted the pivotal role of construction SMEs and craft trades in preserving architectural heritage, revitalising local economies and delivering skilled employment.
Under the theme ‘Preserving history, building tomorrow,’ the Congress featured a public conference with high-level policymakers, construction leaders and technical experts. Discussions centred on integrating SMEs into public procurement processes, emphasising the division of tenders into lots, simplification of rules and the incorporation of green and social criteria.
The event also addressed the energy-efficient renovation of historic buildings, focusing on overcoming financing hurdles, optimising public-private schemes, and balancing innovative and traditional practices.
In addition, the Congress explored the potential of historic buildings as unique housing stock, advocating for repurposing approaches, better funding models, streamlined regulation and support for local actors.
The event was enriched by contributions from Italian policymakers and officials, reinforcing the alignment with current EU priorities in heritage preservation and sustainable housing development.
