Until now, logistics buildings did not have a dedicated European certification scheme for carbon performance. The new LCBI Logistics certification covers both embodied and operational carbon and applies in countries including Spain, Germany, France, Italy and Poland. The methodology sets carbon limit values aligned with 1.5°C decarbonisation pathways and was tested on 18 European case studies. Independent certification bodies carry out the assessments. The initiative also prepares the sector for the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, which will gradually introduce requirements on the whole-life global warming potential of new buildings.
