In the Netherlands, the EIB is providing a €203 million loan to support the construction of a new Bravis Hospital in Roosendaal. The project will replace existing facilities in Roosendaal and Bergen op Zoom with a modern, fossil fuel-free hospital featuring approximately 77,500 m² of space and around 450 beds. Designed to generate as much of its own energy as possible, the new facility will improve healthcare provision while significantly reducing carbon emissions and enhancing long-term resilience.
The EIB is also investing heavily in affordable and energy-efficient housing in Germany as it has granted a €200 million long-term loan to GWH Wohnungsgesellschaft to finance the construction of 550 new homes and the renovation of around 5,000 existing apartments. The investment will improve energy performance, lower heating costs and help ensure affordable housing for low- and middle-income households, particularly in rapidly growing urban areas such as the Rhine-Main region.
Lastly, Portugal has secured a €1.5 billion EIB loan to support the construction and refurbishment of more than 50,000 social and sustainable housing units nationwide. The first €500 million tranche will finance local housing projects aimed at improving living conditions for vulnerable families, increasing the supply of accessible and energy-efficient homes, and supporting urban regeneration.
