Tartu, Estonia’s second-largest city with around 100,000 residents, is receiving EIB funding to renovate schools, kindergartens, and other public facilities to improve energy efficiency. In parallel, cycling and pedestrian routes will be expanded and upgraded to promote sustainable mobility.
The total investment program amounts to €51 million and is also supported by European Union funds and municipal resources. These efforts align with the EU’s “Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities” initiative, fostering a sustainable and resilient urban environment. Known as a center of education and research, Tartu aims to enhance residents’ quality of life and strengthen the city’s resilience through these strategic investments. This project builds on previous EIB financing and represents a significant step toward a climate-neutral future.
