Europe has installed 8.8 GW of new wind power capacity in the first half of 2026, marking a 30% increase compared with the same period in 2025 and putting the region on track for a record year of wind deployment. WindEurope now expects a total of 24 GW of new capacity to be installed by the end of the year, supported by strong activity across several European countries, including Germany, Denmark, Poland, Portugal and France. According to WindEurope, investment activity and auction volumes remain strong, with €9 billion invested in new wind farms during the first half of the year and more than 17 GW of capacity awarded through auctions. However, the organisation warns that challenges related to permitting procedures, grid infrastructure and electrification continue to constrain growth in several markets.
