The AGGREGACO2 project combines captured CO₂ with industrial waste residues to produce low-carbon aggregates for construction applications. Located in northern Spain, the initiative uses accelerated carbonation technology to bind carbon dioxide into mineral form while utilising materials that would otherwise be discarded.

The resulting aggregates can be used in applications including precast products, non-structural concrete, blocks, paving solutions and infrastructure projects. In addition to reducing the use of virgin raw materials, the process incorporates captured carbon dioxide into the production cycle.

According to the project, the facility is expected to operate at industrial scale and process significant volumes of industrial residues. The initiative illustrates how carbon capture technologies and resource recovery approaches can be combined in the development of construction materials.
