The University of Birmingham has launched SurPhase, a doctoral network focused on sustainable cooling technologies. The initiative will train doctoral researchers in advanced heat-transfer approaches that can improve the efficiency and sustainability of energy systems and high-performance technologies.

The research will support the development of cooling solutions for applications including heat pumps, refrigeration, electronics, batteries and telecommunications. It also seeks to strengthen Europe’s research capacity in thermal management and contribute to more sustainable and energy-efficient technologies.
