In 2023, leisure was the primary reason for domestic tourism in Greece, with registered payments reaching nearly EUR 1.3 billion. In contrast, business trips accounted for EUR 650.7 million. This marks a shift from 2019, when business payments slightly exceeded leisure payments by 0.4%, with both categories around EUR 1.1 billion. Despite an increase in leisure payments in 2023, overall tourist spending in Greece has not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels. In 2019, total payments were approximately EUR 2.3 billion, compared to EUR 2.0 billion in 2023, largely due to a significant 40.4% decline in business trip payments. More detailed data can be found in the Greek Tourism Analytics Dashboard (GTAD) by the Institute of the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (INSETE), which is freely accessible and customizable.
