In 2023, Istat’s data revealed that the most favored destination for all trips within Italy was the seaside and cruises, accounting for 50.0 out of every 100 holiday trips. When it came to international travel, cities were the top choice, making up 78.0 out of every 100 holiday trips. Conversely, the least popular destinations within Italy were the countryside, lakes, and rivers, with only 13.7 out of every 100 holiday trips. For international travel, mountains, hills, and highlands were less popular, with only 14.3 out of every 100 holiday trips. These preferences have remained consistent over the years, indicating a strong trend in tourist choices. The Italian National Institute of Statistics, Istat, offers more data through its free statistical database. This database is automatically updated and allows users to select specific criteria and explore holiday trips for pleasure or leisure by the main destination.
