According to the EU Tourism Dashboard, Luxembourg, Greece, Poland, and Malta have the highest nature-based tourism potential among EU countries. Specifically, they account for 33.0%, 32.0%, 31.0%, and 30.0% of the total accommodation capacity (number of rooms) located in areas with “high nature-based recreational opportunities.” In contrast, Switzerland and Belgium have the lowest shares, with values of 1% and 4%, respectively. These areas with high nature-based recreational opportunities are characterized by both high ecosystem quality and high accessibility.
