Between 2017 and 2023, visitors to Slovakia predominantly favored thinly-populated areas when choosing accommodation establishments. In 2023, these thinly-populated regions hosted 2.5 million visitors (accounting for 43.4% of the total), while densely-populated areas accommodated 1.7 million visitors (29.2%). Interestingly, despite receiving fewer visitors than densely populated areas, intermediate-populated regions attracted longer stays. The source of this data is the publicly accessible, automatically updated database of the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic, which allows exploration of visitor numbers in tourist accommodation establishments by population density in Slovakia.
