In 2023, Slovak residents took a total of 11.0 million trips. Of these, 64.2% (7.1 million) were domestic, with the majority being for leisure, recreation, and holidays (51.9% of all domestic trips), followed by visits to relatives and friends (37.3%). Meanwhile, 35.8% (3.9 million) of the trips were abroad, with most of these also for leisure, recreation, and holidays (74.8% of all outbound trips). This trend in travel preferences remained consistent with pre-pandemic values from 2019. More detailed data is available from the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic’s publicly accessible and automatically updated database, which allows for exploration of trips by purpose taken by Slovak residents.
