The European Commission is inviting proposals for research and innovation projects that address the growing demographic challenges faced by rural areas across Europe. The initiative aims to support communities in adapting to population decline and ageing through evidence-based planning and the development of inclusive, sustainable solutions. The goal is to enhance rural well-being, resilience, and long-term sustainability in the context of climate and societal transitions.
Eligible applicants include research institutions, public authorities, SMEs, and social economy actors from EU Member States and associated countries. Proposals must involve a wide range of stakeholders and integrate social sciences and humanities to ensure practical, community-driven outcomes. Funded projects will receive support under Horizon Europe’s Research and Innovation Actions, with a submission deadline of 16 September 2025.
