The European Commission has launched a 4-week Call for Evidence to support the development of the EU’s first-ever Fusion Strategy set for release by the end of 2025. The strategy aims to cement Europe’s leadership in fusion energy – a potentially game-changing, low-carbon power source that mimics the energy of the stars.
As global competitors like the U.S., UK, China, and Japan advance national fusion programmes, the EU seeks to accelerate its own roadmap towards commercial fusion deployment. Building on its central role in the ITER project and the Euratom Research and Training Programme, the strategy will focus on strengthening industrial ecosystems, enabling private investment, establishing regulatory frameworks, and addressing skills gaps in the sector.
This initiative is part of the Clean Industrial Deal and the Affordable Energy Action Plan and responds to the Draghi Report's call to bolster European competitiveness. Stakeholders across research, industry, startups, and investment are encouraged to contribute insights to help shape the EU’s vision for fusion.
The Call for Evidence is open in all EU languages until 1 July 2025, marking a pivotal moment in steering Europe’s future towards clean, secure energy.
