Fertilizers Europe has introduced a Product Stewardship Program, a mandatory programme for all members, which sets rigorous standards for fertilizer production techniques and safety protocols within the European fertilizer industry. The objectives of the program are to ensure compliance with legal requirements and the use of best practice techniques during product development; emphasise the sourcing of raw materials with a focus on safety and environmental impact; set standards for fertilizer production covering additives, environmental controls, safety management, and recycling; provide guidelines for packaging, handling, and transport; and to uphold proper storage and security. Regular third-party audits ensure compliance, and in June all members reached the milestone of meeting the requirements for this year's audit. The audits take place every 3 years the next audit will take place in 2026. The programme is updated frequently to align with evolving legislation and best practices. In this way the fertilizer industry can continue to apply best practice during the decarbonisation transition.
