In April 2025, the European Commission published a new Eurobarometer survey offering insights into the travel habits, preferences, and experiences of EU citizens. The survey highlights that cost (including ticket prices and fuel costs) is the most significant factor influencing regional and long-distance travel for 61% of respondents. This is followed by total travel duration (47%), departure or arrival times (36%), and comfort (such as seat space and noise levels) at 29%.
The findings indicate a growing demand for seamless travel experiences, with 76% of respondents already using online booking services. Conducted from 28 August to 4 September 2024, the survey gathered responses from 25,805 EU citizens, examining travel frequency for leisure and work, key factors in travel planning and booking, attitudes towards sustainable travel, the usage of different transport modes and multimodal travel options, booking ease, and challenges in mixing different transport modes or operators.
