Nordregio, a leading Nordic research institute specialising in regional development, policy, and planning, released a report on 31 March 2025, analysing the social sustainability of tourism in the Nordic region. It includes case studies and stakeholder interviews from eight Nordic locations: Salla in Finland, Lofoten in Norway, the High Coast in Sweden, Åland, the Faroe Islands, Ilulissat in Greenland, the South Iceland Region in Iceland, and Billund in Denmark. The report examines how elements such as community engagement, cultural preservation, equity, and stakeholder collaboration are put into practice. Through these case studies and accompanying policy recommendations, it strives to guide stakeholders in creating tourism that aligns with the values and needs of Nordic communities.
