The "National sustainable mobility policy (SMP) year one progress report", published in April 2022 by the Department of Transport in Ireland, outlines a strategic framework for active travel (walking and cycling) and public transport journeys up to 2030. Providing efficient, eco-friendly, safe, and accessible car-free options is its way of helping Ireland fulfil its climate commitments. With a 2025 action plan in tow, the SMP prioritises behavioural modification and demand management strategies to lower the use of private vehicles and improve the nation's sustainable transportation options.
