The handbook, developed as part of the HERIT-DATA project, serves as a comprehensive guide for managing mass tourism and addressing its impacts using Big and Open Data. It covers various aspects, including defining mass tourism and its effects, assessing carrying capacity in Mediterranean destinations, implementing sustainable tourism strategies, and harnessing innovative technologies. Through case studies and practical recommendations, the handbook offers insights into enhancing positive impacts while minimizing negative effects, with a special focus on leveraging new technologies. Published in 2022, it provides valuable tools for policymakers, destination managers, and stakeholders working toward sustainable tourism development in heritage sites.
