Regulation (EU) 2024/1028, adopted by the European Parliament and the Council on 11 April 2024, addresses data collection and sharing for short-term accommodation rental services. Its goal is to enhance transparency and improve data availability in the short-term rental market. Additionally, it amends Regulation (EU) 2018/1724 to ensure better coordination and data sharing among EU member states, promoting a more efficient and harmonised approach to managing short-term accommodation rentals.
The regulation applies to all EU member states, which are responsible for implementing and enforcing its provisions. It affects all short-term rental platforms facilitating distance contracts between guests and hosts, as well as anyone listing a unit on such platforms. However, it does not apply to hotels or similar tourist accommodations like holiday resorts or guest apartments.
The regulation allows for the identification of rental hotspots and price increases, enabling authorities to better regulate the housing market in the future.
Ensure compliance with the new rules and complete the necessary adjustments before the regulation comes into force on 20 May 2026.
