The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Environment published a news item reflecting on the impact of the EU Ecolabel symbolised by the small green flower since its introduction, in 1992. Highlighted during EU Green Week 2025, the Ecolabel champions sustainable production and empowers consumers with clear, verified information, thereby advancing a clean, circular and competitive European economy.
Over 25 product groups, fall under independently verified environmental criteria that emphasise reuse potential, recyclability, waste reduction and resource efficiency. At the event, EU Environment Commissioner Jessika Roswall underscored the label’s importance in restoring consumer confidence, noting how 62% of Europeans struggle to navigate vague green claims, a challenge the Ecolabel directly addresses.
