The European Commission has officially launched a public consultation on the inaugural European Affordable Housing Plan, marking a significant step toward addressing housing challenges across the continent. The consultation is open until 17 October 2025, inviting contributions from citizens, stakeholders, public authorities, and experts from various sectors—including tourism and territorial development.

This landmark initiative seeks to shape a more inclusive and effective European strategy for affordable housing. It covers a broad spectrum of topics, including:

  • Affordable and social housing
  • Financing and State aid
  • Construction, renovation, and urban planning
  • Rental markets, short-term accommodation, and secondary homes
  • Governance and social inclusion

The consultation is accessible in all 24 official EU languages through the European Commission’s ‘Have Your Say’ portal, ensuring broad participation across member states.

Stakeholders in the tourism sector are particularly encouraged to contribute, as housing policies increasingly intersect with tourism development, urban dynamics, and regional planning.
