On 23 May 2025, the European Commission unveiled a comprehensive proposal aimed at enhancing the European Union’s digital infrastructure. This initiative seeks to bolster connectivity, ensure data security, and promote technological innovation across member states.

The proposed measures include significant investments in high-speed broadband networks, the establishment of secure data centres, and the development of advanced cybersecurity frameworks. By implementing these strategies, the Commission aims to bridge the digital divide, support economic growth, and reinforce the EU’s position as a global leader in digital technology.

This proposal aligns with the broader objectives of the EU’s Digital Decade strategy, aiming to foster cross-border cooperation, encourage both private and public investment, and create a resilient digital environment that supports the Union’s sustainability and competitiveness goals.
