The Danish Crown Sustainability Strategy has for years focused on 5 tracks:
Feeding the World;
Sustainable Farming;
Sustainable Food Production;
Good Jobs for Everyone;
Together with customers and consumers.
Hence Danish Crown overall will continue to contribute to the environmental, health and social sustainability of food systems, by challenging ourselves, the industry and our consumers based upon this strategy.
Commitments by aspirational objectives:
Aspirational objective 1: Healthy, balanced, and sustainable diets for all European consumers, thereby contributing to:
1) Reversing malnutrition and diet-related noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) in the EU;
2) Reducing the environmental footprint of food consumption by 2030.
With the following aspirational targets:
a) Improved food consumption patterns in the EU;
b) A food environment that makes it easier to choose healthy and sustainable diets.
Danish Crown commitments:
Feeding the World; We will find new ways to feed the world with sustainable meat, protein, and meals through collaboration and partnerships in our value chain.
Together with customers and consumers; We will earn customers and consumers’ confidence and meet their needs for healthy, safe, and responsible food.
Aspirational objective 3: A climate-neutral food chain in Europe by 2050
With the following aspirational target:
Reducing net emissions from own operations, contributing to a 55% GHG emission reduction target in the EU food chain by 2030 (following a science-based approach).
Danish Crown commitments:
50 per cent reduction of greenhouse gas emissions per kg meat by 2030 relative to 2005;
Being climate neutral (net) by 2050.
Aspirational objective 5: Sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, employment, and decent work for all
With the following aspirational targets:
a) Improved resilience and competitiveness of companies operating at any point along the food value chain by 2030;
b) Quality jobs, skilled workforce, and safe and inclusive workplaces for all.
Danish Crown commitments:
Good Jobs for Everyone; We will attract and retain people with good jobs and equal opportunities for everyone, creating safe and healthy workplaces.
Aspirational objective 6: Sustainable value creation in the European food supply chain through partnership
With the following aspirational targets:
a) Improved resilience and competitiveness of companies operating at any point along the food value chain by 2030;
b) Continued progress towards sustainable production, contributing to sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources by 2030 and improved animal welfare.
Danish Crown commitments:
Sustainable Food Production; We will operate a sustainable, efficient and high-performing food production, setting high standards for ourselves and for our suppliers.
Sustainable Farming; We aim to secure a strong future for our farmers and promote sustainable livestock production within planetary boundaries.
