Commitments by aspirational objectives:
Aspirational objective 2: Prevention and reduction of food loss and waste (at the consumer level, within internal operations, and across value chains)
With the following aspirational target:
A 50% reduction of per capita food waste at the retail and consumer level by 2030 and reduced food losses along the food production and supply chains in the EU.
ICA commitments:
ICA Gruppen is to cut food waste from stores and warehouses in half by 2025 (food waste weight share). The target is an existing target since 2019 and with a base year of 2016. The target is measured using the international standard created by the FLW Protocol (Food Loss and Waste Protocol).
Aspirational objective 3: A climate-neutral food chain in Europe by 2050
With the following aspirational target:
Reducing net emissions from own operations, contributing to a 55% GHG emission reduction target in the EU food chain by 2030 (following a science-based approach).
ICA commitments:
Food production accounts for roughly a fourth of the global carbon footprint, and ICA Gruppen therefore has the ambition to cut the climate impact of customers’ grocery purchases in half by 2030.
The target is an existing target with a base year of 2020 and with public reporting in the group’s interim and annual reports. The carbon footprint calculated is based on the RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden) climate database. The baseline measurement that has been conducted indicated an average carbon footprint of 1.79 kg CO2e per kg sold food in 2020, which thus, should decrease to 0.895 kg CO2e per kg sold food in 2030.
