The Tourism Sustainability Plan, published by the City Council of Huelva in 2024, outlines strategies to promote sustainable tourism at Playa del Espigón, aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The plan aims to achieve the ""S"" certification for Sustainable Tourism from the Instituto para la Calidad Turística Española (ICTE), enhance the natural and cultural heritage of the area, support local livelihoods and raise sustainability awareness.
It involves engaging stakeholders in decision-making, integrating SDG principles into management, developing a sustainability policy, conducting analyses to prioritize relevant SDGs, defining strategic actions, monitoring progress, and publishing annual sustainability reports. The focus areas include health and well-being, climate action, life below water, and life on land, emphasising continuous improvement and effective planning for the sustainable development of Playa del Espigón.
