The ASCEND project, running from 2023 to 2028, addresses the global climate and energy crisis by creating Positive Clean Energy Districts (PCEDs) across Europe. These districts aim to mitigate climate change effects and foster inclusive, resilient, and smart communities. The project will deliver two PCEDs in Lyon and Munich, and expand to six additional cities, focusing on active citizenship, zero-carbon buildings, smart energy grids, decarbonized public spaces, and digital tools. By 2028, ASCEND plans to have 25 PCEDs underway, promoting healthier, smarter, and more sustainable urban living.
