DEPART, spanning from April 2024 to June 2028, addresses the burgeoning sector of sports tourism, recognized as the fastest-growing segment in travel. With a focus on sustainability, DEPART aims to investigate best practices in various forms of sports tourism, from organized events to unstructured activities like beach volleyball and rock climbing. By analyzing economic, environmental, socio-cultural, and institutional dimensions, DEPART seeks to develop strategies that leverage the competitive advantages of regions involved in sports tourism. The project aims to mitigate side effects such as transportation strain while aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), fostering cohesion, and maximizing the social and economic benefits of sports tourism.
