Košice, Slovakia, marked the completion of its city re-use centre pilot, a living-lab initiative developed under the EU-funded NiCE project to test how re-use and repair-based retail concepts can be integrated into city centres.

The closing event brought together city representatives, project partners and local stakeholders to review the pilot's outcomes and consider its longer-term potential, following a period of testing how a dedicated re-use space could function within the existing city-centre commercial fabric. The pilot forms part of a wider set of NiCE trials across eight cities exploring practical, small-scale alternatives to conventional retail formats.

For local authorities and retail associations looking at ways to diversify shrinking city-centre commercial offers, the Košice case adds to a growing body of EU-supported evidence on how re-use and repair services can be piloted at manageable scale before wider rollout.
