Eurostat: EU retail trade volume falls 0.4% in July 2026, up 1.0% year-on-year

Seasonally adjusted retail trade volume decreased 0.6% in the euro area and 0.4% in the EU in July 2026 compared with June, though volumes remained up 0.6% and 1.0% respectively compared with July 2025.

Food, drinks and tobacco sales grew slightly (+0.3% EU), while non-food products fell 1.1% and automotive fuel sales dropped 1.1%. Germany posted the sharpest monthly decline (-3.4%), while Latvia (+2.5%), Cyprus (+2.0%) and Luxembourg (+1.8%) saw the strongest gains. Year-on-year, Cyprus (+8.6%), Latvia (+7.1%) and Sweden (+6.4%) led growth, while Romania (-5.7%) and Germany (-2.5%) recorded the largest declines. June 2026 figures were revised upward, from +0.2% to +0.2% (monthly) unchanged, with annual growth revised up from +0.7% to +1.4% (euro area).
