The Barcelona Provincial Council and the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce have introduced the Barcelona Region Biosphere Commitment to Sustainable Tourism, a voluntary certification initiative aimed at encouraging sustainable tourism practices among businesses, services, and public agencies in the province of Barcelona. This programme aligns with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda, offering guidance and training to help participants create and implement annual action plans focused on continuous sustainability improvements. It enables participants to position themselves in an emerging market, attract environmentally conscious customers, build connections with other sustainable organisations, and contribute to advancing a more eco-friendly tourism sector. The participation fees for the programme are set annually by the Barcelona Provincial Council, ranging from EUR 48.40 to EUR 127.05.
