The seventh edition of the European Recycling Conference (ERC 2025), held in Hamburg and organised by Recycling Europe (formerly European Recycling Industries’ Confederation), brought together over 140+ industry leaders, policymakers and innovators to confront pressing circular economy challenges in Europe.
During the event, key speakers addressed a range of issues: from export restrictions on recycled steel and administrative burdens, to battery-related fire risks and the urgent need for open trade in recycled materials. The conference highlighted that Europe is producing more recycled raw materials than its industries currently consume, underscoring the need to boost demand and integrate recycled content across sectors.
The day concluded with a clear message: Europe must act faster, smarter and more collaboratively to make circularity the new normal. With its new identity, Recycling Europe affirmed its role as the unified voice for the recycling industry, representing recyclers across metals, plastics, paper, tyres, textiles and construction materials.
