Developed under the United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (UN/CEFACT), UNTP provides a comprehensive and interoperable set of technical specifications to support transparency at scale across global value chains. The specifications under review cover the full UNTP stack, including Digital Product Passports (DPP), Digital Facility Records (DFR), digital traceability events, conformity credentials, identity resolvers, verifiable credentials mechanisms, and the shared data model and vocabularies. Sector-specific adaptations extend these components with domain-specific data elements while maintaining full interoperability with the UNTP core, and are publicly identifiable through the central UNTP registry. Mapping to emerging national and regional regulatory requirements for product passports remains an ongoing commitment, ensuring alignment with evolving policy frameworks. The UNTP operationalizes the principles of UNECE Recommendation No. 49 - Transparency at Scale by providing a technical protocol for their implementation. Work on the UNTP is funded by the Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA), under the UNECE project on Enhancing Transparency and Traceability of Sustainable Value Chains in the Garment and Footwear Sector.
Public review of the UNTP until 13 July 2026
The UNTP Version 0.7.0 is undergoing public review and is open for comments until 13 July 2026, inviting stakeholders with an interest in transparency, traceability, sustainability data, or digital interoperability to provide feedback. Feedback can be submitted via the UNTP website, the UNTP GitLab repository, or the UN/CEFACT Public Review website. All feedback received by 13 July 2026 will be carefully considered and will directly inform the final standard.
