RREUSE is actively engaged in shaping policies for more durable, reusable, repairable and recyclable products. Among these, textiles is one of the top product priorities, where waste prevention is key. As such, RREUSE will contribute to the development of ambitious requirements for textile products under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), and to the revision of the Textile Labelling Regulation. As an appointed member of the Ecodesign Forum, RREUSE will bring its network’s expertise in textile reuse and repair, to make sure textile products are designed to last and to be reused before reaching their end-of-life, and to ensure consumers and reuse operators are provided with comprehensive information on textile items put on the EU market, from the production stage, use phase and disposal.

Progress reported in June 2026: 
Since the submission of the pledge, the following progress has been achieved:

• RREUSE has been actively engaged and provided detailed feedback to the development of ecodesign requirements for textile apparel products under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR). RREUSE’s latest feedback to the 3rd milestone report of the preparatory study on ecodesign for textile apparel provides input on how to increase the durability, repairability and reusability of clothes and garments in the EU (see here). RREUSE will follow future developments closely, such as the upcoming 4th milestone of the preparatory study and the impact assessment.
• As an appointed member of the Ecodesign Forum, RREUSE has participated in expert meetings with the European Commission, the Joint Research Centre and relevant stakeholders of the textile sector to discuss ecodesign requirements, as well as digital product passport (DPP) implementation for textile apparel. RREUSE will keep following these developments alongside the ESPR.
• RREUSE was also actively involved in shaping the EU ban on destruction of unsold textile and footwear products (see here), which has now been adopted and will soon come into force.
• RREUSE has advocated for a revision of the Textile Labelling Regulation in order to improve information, facilitate sorting for reuse and preparing for reuse of collected textile items, as well as recycling of non-reusable volumes. As this process is currently on hold, RREUSE stands ready to contribute to its continuation in the future.
