Bratislava was recognised at the New Mobility Congress 2026 for co-creating sustainable mobility through its Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan. For a city building its profile as a short-break and MICE destination, planning mobility at this scale matters well beyond the historic centre tourists usually see.

Bratislava and its wider metropolitan region are jointly developing a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) that coordinates public transport, active mobility and private car use across the city, surrounding municipalities and cross-border areas. The process brings together municipal, regional and cross-border stakeholders into a single planning framework aimed at addressing growing congestion.

Most visitors to Bratislava experience only a small slice of this system, the compact old town, but the plan's real test is whether it works for everyone moving through the wider region, including the growing number of MICE travellers and day-trippers arriving from nearby Vienna. A mobility plan built at metropolitan and cross-border scale, rather than one confined to the historic core, is far more likely to hold up as both business tourism and everyday commuting keep pulling on the same roads and transit lines.
