The OUTPACE project, funded by the Erasmus+ programme, aimed to transform the tourism industry by harnessing the power of popular culture—such as films, television series, books, and music—to create innovative tourism experiences. Running from September 2019 to September 2021, the project focused on equipping higher education educators, tourism stakeholders, and businesses with the knowledge and skills required to tap into these modern cultural trends. It also supported the development of transferable, entrepreneurial, and digital competences.
OUTPACE successfully delivered a range of impactful outputs, including pop culture tourism alliances and action plans, resource packs, open educational tools, and a Pop Culture Tourism Innovators’ App. These initiatives contributed to the emergence of more market-responsive tourism enterprises and helped strengthen regional tourism economies through creative and immersive experiences.
